Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 26, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Joke Plant (jokeplant.com) collects when you use the site, how it is used, and the choices you have. Joke Plant is a small independent website that offers free party games, including Would You Rather, Truth or Dare, Never Have I Ever, This or That, the Party Room and the Joke of the Day. You do not need an account to use any part of the site.

The short version

  • We do not ask for your name, email or any account to play.
  • Your game progress (streaks, answered questions, sound setting, player names) is saved in your own browser, not on our server.
  • Poll percentages come from anonymous vote totals that are not linked to you.
  • Party Room nicknames and answers are stored briefly so the game works, then deleted automatically.
  • The site is supported by ads from Journey by Mediavine, which uses cookies to show ads. Mediavine’s notice is included in full below.

1. Information we collect

Things you type into a game

Party Room: when you host or join a room, we store the room code, the nickname you enter, your answers and the running score on our server so every screen in the room can show the game. This data is deleted automatically within about 12 hours after the room was last used. Please use a nickname or first name only, and never enter personal details such as a full name, phone number or address.

Truth or Dare player names: names you add to the single-screen Truth or Dare game are saved only in your browser so you do not have to type them again. They are not sent to our server.

Anonymous votes

When you pick an answer in Would You Rather, This or That or Never Have I Ever, we add one to the total for that answer. We store only the totals for each question, not who voted. Your browser remembers which questions you already answered so the same device is not counted twice.

Information saved in your browser

The games use your browser’s local storage to remember your Joke of the Day progress and streak, questions you have answered, your sound setting, and Party Room session details. This information stays on your device. You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

Technical and security information

Like most websites, our hosting provider (SiteGround) automatically records basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of the request. This is used to keep the site secure, block abusive traffic and fix problems. To prevent spam and abuse of the games, we may briefly use a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address to limit how many votes or rooms can be created in a short time. These short-term records expire automatically, usually within an hour.

When you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it only to reply to you.

2. Cookies and third-party services

Joke Plant uses the following services, some of which set cookies or similar technologies:

  • Journey by Mediavine (advertising). Mediavine and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, including interest-based ads. See the Mediavine Advertising Privacy Notice below for full details and opt-out options.
  • Grow by Mediavine, which powers some site features such as content recommendations and bookmarking.
  • Google Analytics, which helps us understand how many people visit and which games are popular. It uses cookies such as _ga. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Google Fonts, which delivers the fonts used on the site. Your browser connects to Google servers to load them.
  • SiteGround, our web host, which provides security features that may briefly check your browser to protect the site from bots.
  • Social share buttons, which let you share a page. Information is sent to a social network only if you choose to use one of its buttons.

You can read more in our Cookie Policy.

3. How we use information

  • To run the games, including the Party Room, poll results and the Joke of the Day.
  • To keep the site secure and prevent spam and abuse.
  • To understand which games people enjoy so we can improve them.
  • To show ads that keep the site free.
  • To reply when you contact us.

4. Sharing and selling of information

Joke Plant does not sell, rent or trade personal information on its own. Information is shared with the service providers listed above so the site can function, and with our advertising partner Mediavine as described in its notice below. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our visitors or the site.

5. Your choices and rights

  • Ad choices: use the “Update Privacy Settings” or “Do Not Sell or Share My Information” link at the bottom of the home page where it is shown, or the opt-out tools listed in the Mediavine notice below.
  • Global Privacy Control: where required by law, browser signals such as Global Privacy Control are honored for ad-related data.
  • Browser storage and cookies: you can clear or block them in your browser settings. The games still work, but streaks and saved settings will reset.
  • Access, correction and deletion: depending on where you live (for example California and other US states, the EU or the UK), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information. Because we do not keep accounts, we usually hold very little that identifies you. Email support@jokeplant.com and we will help. For advertising data, contact Mediavine as described below.

6. Children’s privacy

Joke Plant is a general-audience site with clean, family-friendly game sets that parents and teachers often use with kids. We do not require accounts and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Kids should play with a parent, guardian or teacher, and should use only a first name or nickname in the Party Room. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email support@jokeplant.com and we will delete it.

7. How long we keep information

  • Party Room rooms, nicknames and answers: deleted automatically, usually within 12 hours of the room’s last activity.
  • Anonymous vote totals: kept for as long as the question is on the site.
  • Short-term anti-abuse records: expire automatically, usually within an hour.
  • Hosting logs: kept by our host for a limited period for security.
  • Emails you send us: kept only as long as needed to handle your message.

8. Security

We use secure HTTPS connections and our host’s security tools to protect the site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Visitors outside the United States

Joke Plant is designed for visitors in the United States. If you visit from another country, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.

Mediavine Advertising Privacy Notice v. 1.2

Mediavine works with this site to support the delivery of ads that align with your interests. It collects information about your online activities and browsing information, including websites you visit, pages you view, search terms, the apps you use, the language and device you use, location, and emails from newsletter sign ups. This information is then passed to partners to enable them to display interest based advertising to you.

This Notice is specific to Mediavine and explains how Mediavine collects, uses, shares, or sells your personal information when you visit this site or sign up for a newsletter managed by Mediavine. This website must disclose any collection, use, sharing or sale of personal data beyond the services provided by Mediavine in its own privacy notice (above) and comply with relevant privacy laws.

What personal data does Mediavine collect?

Mediavine may collect:

  • IP Address (unique address that identifies your computer or phone on the internet)
  • Location (country, city, state)
  • Operating System (e.g., Windows or Mac)
  • Device Information (hardware, platform, location and carrier data)
  • Language of the Website or Browser
  • Web Browser Type (e.g., Chrome, Firefox or Safari)
  • Email address

When you visit this site, Mediavine uses cookies and similar technologies, such as pixels and tags, to collect your information about your behavior on this site and other websites you visit, across your devices. These tools track preferences, website visits and activities, interactions with emails and ads, and evaluate effectiveness of emails and ads and record which ads have been shown to you to enable the delivery of interest based ads on this site. To learn more, please visit allaboutcookies.org; ICO – What are cookies and similar technologies; learnwebanalytics.com.

In some cases, Mediavine may manage a site’s newsletter. Mediavine collects your email directly from you through the newsletter sign up form, and will request your consent to use your email for interest based advertising. Your email will be converted into hashed format – a unique set of numbers and letters representing your email – before being sent to partners. If you no longer wish to receive this newsletter, you may unsubscribe at any time using the “Unsubscribe” button.

Does Mediavine share or sell my personal information for interest based advertising?

Yes, Mediavine will use, share, license, sell or otherwise disclose your personal information to our partners to enable interest based advertising to be displayed to you on this site. Through the bidstream, an online marketplace, Mediavine shares data, such as ad location, site content, and your personal information with advertisers. Using this information, advertisers bid for ad space, and the winning bidder gets to display their ad to you on this site.

Mediavine may share your personal data with partners to create a universal (unique) identifier linked to your online behavior and preferences. This identifier is added to the bid request to improve the targeting of interest based ads. Mediavine and its partners may also combine your personal data collected from your interaction with this site with your data that they have collected from other sources to create a profile of your interests and behaviors to provide interest based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers, and applications. Mediavine could also license your personal data from its partners to enrich the information in its bid request to advertisers.

To learn more about Mediavine partners, visit mediavine.com/ad-partners.
